our night with kenny

Kenny was in town last night... so of course we went to hang out with him for a couple of hours.I think this was the 6th time we've seen Kenny in concert, and we never get tired of it. I'd have to say, though that this concert was the best one yet. (It could have something to do with the killer tickets we had...) See you next time Kenny.

belated birthdays

Since I was sort of "out of town" for the boys birthdays, we finally got around to planning a birthday party for them. We didn't PLAN on it raining all day and night, but all 13 boys still had fun at the Redhawks game!

Cooper with his favorite neighbors... Riley and Griffin. The entertainment for the night was comedian Myron Noodleman!

When you are 10, it is very embarrasing for your mom to make you stand still in front of all your friends for a picture.
***On a little side note... Tim and I woke up this morning to cupcake wrappers and sprinkles in our bed, and just about everywhere else thanks to the dog. After having gotten into the birthday garbage during the night, she was not feeling so good this morning.

Carter's Soccer Tournament

Carter is playing traveling soccer this summer and had his first tournament last weekend in Grand Forks. They won all four games for the championship... Carter played really great. Here are his brother and sister paying very close attention to their brother's game...We had to bring Emme with... she was such a good girl but got alittle hot with all her long hair!

Tim wore his hat backwards for the whole day on Saturday and got this really great tan line across the middle of his forehead.

summer so far...

Tim's "Team Moorhead" won the fruit bowl... again. Nice knickers boys. Katelyn's last day of middle school. I sound like such a "mother", but can you believe we pay EXTRA for all the holes in those jeans?

Kennedy FINALLY got to visit the new Fargo Library and got her very own library card.

If you haven't been there yet, we highly recommend you make the trip... it is such a cool place!
Katelyn and her friend spent the whole day decorating our driveway with chalk drawings... only to have it washed away by rain that night. :(
Kennedy attended bible school at our church last week (with 330 other kids!) and had a little program on Friday. Katelyn helped teach bible school and also started a Trollwood program last week. She will be performing in the play Honk Jr. on June 24th and 25th at Moorhead High School.Kennedy and Kenzie caught some rays while Coop took a break from rollerblading. And yesterday it was finally HOT enough to spend the day at the pool!

And also.... I don't have a photo of her yet (Kennedy told me she would take one for me!), but the kids are loving their summer nanny Lauren. She has been busy driving them around to all of their activities, to the mall, to the park, to the DQ..... and even told Kennedy she would take her to get her nails done this week. Yes.... this summer will be so much better than summer was!

just in case...

you don't get a chance to drive by, I thought I'd post some pictures of my finished landscaping project. I had lots of help from my kids. In fact, early Saturday morning Cooper was outside with me digging and watering etc... I told him how much I appreciated his help and told him I was going to take him to DQ for a treat when we were done. A little while later, he disappeared into the house and then came back out and continued to help me. Soon after, one after the other came the other kids more than eager to see what they could do to "help." The Dairy Queen is very popular around our house.

Next we will have to work on that front step and porch....One of my favorites is this Rose Shrub... it is called the "Lena" and is supposed to be very hardy for growing in the north. Some of my pots.... I planted lots of geraniums, impatients (and my new favorites the double impatients that almost look like mini-english roses), petunias, and bacopa.
And just so my friends will have more reasons to tell me what a obessive compulsive, Type-A person I am, I will show you the little "garden journal" I've been working on... complete with a map and care instructions for all of my new plants! Yep.... I'll admit it. I'm a freak.
And our sweet Em.... so glad her mommy is done with all that work so she doesn't have to bark and whine at the front door anymore!

my new "thing"

So I spent the better part of last week and weekend making the rounds to all the nurseries searching for plants and flowers for our front yard. I have always wanted to be good at gardening... so I decided it was time for me to give it a try. I think the first lesson to being "good" at gardening is that you actually have to enjoy it.... but maybe it will be easier to enjoy when I'm not digging 428 holes.

I planted lots of spireas, a few hydrangeas and pink potentillas, catmint, daylilies, phlox, dianthus, rose shrubs, salvia, delphinium, and lots of other stuff I can't remember!Thank you to our family "photojournalist" Katelyn for the oh most flattering photos...

And here is miss Em... wishing she could get in on a little of the "dirt" action...

The project is pretty much complete... so you will have to drive by and check it out! [Before I have some casualties!]

for my mom

and any other family members wanting to see photos of ME in Africa... you see, since I am the one with the camera I am not IN very many photos. But here I am holding a little boy named Julius who lives at the hospice center we visited last night. They care for babies who are born with HIV/AIDS until they are well enough to go back to live with their families. Only two more days until I get to leave for home!!! Love you and miss you all............

happy early birthdays

We did a little bit of early celebrating for the kids' birthdays this weekend. Carter and Cooper will be TEN on Thursday and Katelyn will be FOURTEEN on Friday. And of course, I will be gone. I fly out of Fargo tomorrow around 1pm, and will be back on May 7th. Here is a couple little maps I made them to look at while I'm in Africa, so they can know where I will be each day...

I will miss you all, but know it will be an amazing experience that I will never forget. Can't wait to be able to share it all with you. I am going to try to post on my photography blog while I'm in Africa, so you can check in there if you want!
